Elkhart County police investigate the scene at C.R

According to Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department Patrolman Scott Gould, the girl, Dajeianna Smith, 12, of Elkhart, was airlifted by MedFlight to either Memorial Hospital or Parkview in Fort Wayne after a red pickup truck struck her as she walked westbound on the north side of C.R. 108 at around 4:45 p.m. She had suffered trauma to the head and chest area. Further information about the girl’s status was unavailable as of 9:45 p.m. Wednesday.
EMTs from Osolo and Cleveland townships assisted on the scene. The Elkhart County Crash Investigation Team responded and is investigating the crash. No enforcement action was taken against the driver of the truck pending the result of the investigation.
