ELKHART — An Elkhart man suffered road rash injuries after he crashed his motorcycle Monday evening.

Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department Cpl. Casey Lehman reported Robert D. Postema, 59, was headed west on U.S. 20, east of U.S. 33 at 6:22 p.m. Postema took both hands off the handlebars of his 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle and was making obscene gestures to a passing motorist when he lost control of the bike. The motorcycle tipped over and Postema skidded across the road, causing road rash injuries to his legs.

Postema righted the bike and fled before being stopped by police at S.R. 19 and C.R. 24. He was taken to Elkhart General Hospital where he was admitted for treatment.

Lehman reported Postema failed a field sobriety test and submitted to a blood draw. No charges were filed, pending lab results.
