GOSHEN — Forest River, Inc., will be expanding production of its revamped XLR toy hauler line and increasing its workforce to meet growing demand in the market.

This month, the recreational vehicle manufacturer will break ground on a new 100,000-square-foot facility in Goshen between the company’s Wildwood and Surveyor plants, according to Brent Stevens, national sales manager for the XLR division. Currently, the units are being made in two separate smaller facilities which limit how many RVs that Forest River can build.

The new building will enable production of XLR toy hauler brands to double, Stevens said. Plans call for the structure to be completed in November with production starting in January

“It’s a fun RV to get out and take to dealers,” Stevens said. “They understand the product and have fun with it too.”

Along with the increased production, the company is already adding workers with the expectation of growing the XLR workforce by 20 to 25 percent.

Toy haulers were developed in California and have a cargo space built in that can be used to haul just about anything including motorbikes and golf carts.

Stevens credits the new popularity of the XLR to Forest River rethinking the traditional toy hauler. The division has given the unit a more contemporary interior and marketed it to a broader demographic that includes full time RVers, hot air balloonists and dog show participants.
