GOSHEN — Goshen College is closing the pool and spa at its Recreation-Fitness Center.

Vice president for Student Life and Dean of Students Bill Born said the college sent out an email on Monday to Goshen College faculty, staff and students. For the past three years, the school had discussed the cost of maintaining the pool and how viable it was to keep it open.

He said they’ll get feedback in the fall for what people want to replace the pool. The pool will close on Aug. 31.

“It’s a heavily used facility, and I’m confident we’ll be able to find some use for that square footage for the constituents that use that facility,” Born said.

There was a student swim club that practiced in the pool and a water aerobics class that met there.

“Those are the folks that will be greatly disappointed, because they value the pool and the program a great deal,” Born said. Small water aerobics classes and individual swimmers used the pool.
