Mennonite seminary announces name change
The word “Associated” refers to the seminary’s formation from the merger of two seminaries, said Sara Wenger Shenk, seminary president. The new name will be Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary.
“Although ‘Anabaptist’ refers to the radical Jesus movement of the 16th century, it has reappeared with a second life in the 21st century. ... As a seminary, we are ready to collaborate with a widening circle of new and global Anabaptists, as well as other kindred spirits from diverse denominations, cultures and ethnicities,” Wenger Shenk said.
The change takes effect Aug. 28.
The seminary is also redesigning its Master of Divinity program, with a launch slated for fall 2013, and will offer a new online, noncredit Anabaptist studies courses.
The announcements were made in conjunction with two celebration events, including the rededication of Chapel of the Sermon on the Mount today.
