The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department is seeking information on a driver who may have been trying to lure a child into his truck Wednesday afternoon.

Police responded to the 57000 block of 18th Street in Elkhart around 4:30 p.m. after a man reportedly tried to get a boy into his truck by asking him to pet his dog, according to a press release from the sheriff’s department.

The man fled the area when a witness approached him.

The driver is described as a white man in his 40s with a short, untrimmed beard and “bad” teeth. He was wearing a tan baseball cap. His truck may have been a black 2008 or newer Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck with a lot of chrome, including running boards.

Anyone with information may call the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department at 533-4151.
