GOSHEN — In February, Glen Campbell played the Grammys. In July, all indications are he’s playing the Elkhart County 4-H Fair as one of the stops on his farewell tour.

There’s no word on when tickets for reserved track seats will go on sale nor the cost for the tickets — the fair can’t even confirm Campbell’s coming — but demand for his July 25 show will likely be big.

The long delay for the announcement may have something to do with his upcoming May 10 concert at the Honeywell Center in Wabash.

While Kristy Ambrosen, fair spokeswoman, said only that the fair has contractual obligations with the artist they’ve hired, she said, “The fair has free grandstands. Other venues charge for tickets,” and so the fair doesn’t yet have permission to announce the show.

Ambrosen said, “I think we will have approval that we can officially say what’s happening by mid-May.”

Even without the fair’s announcement, people reported seeing the fair date on Campbell’s official web page before it was taken down, and the Fort Wayne News-Sentinel reported that Campbell is coming both to the Honeywell Center and to the Elkhart County 4-H Fair.

Campbell announced last year that he has Alzheimer’s disease, and this tour is his final one in his 50-year music career.

That career includes songs like “Rhinestone Cowboy” and “Wichita Lineman” and performing with artists like Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, The Beach Boys, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash.

His concert will round out this summer’s fair concert series.

Styx will perform July 21 at 8 p.m., and Salvador featuring Jaci Velasquez will perform July 22 at 8 p.m. Thompson Square will follow on July 23, and Josh Turner will perform July 24, the day before Campbell.

Reserved trackside tickets for the first four artists are on sale now at the fair office, 17746 C.R. 34, or by telephone at 533-FAIR (3247). Styx and Josh Turner tickets are $25, while Thompson Square tickets are $20. Salvador tickets are $10.

Buying tickets gets reserved seating, but all shows will have free seating in the grandstands on a first-come, first-served basis.
