Police say woman committed to hospital after setting Bristol fire
The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department and the Bristol Fire Department responded to the home, 19 Maple St., shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday.
A 40-year-old woman refused to leave the emergency incident area while firefighters put out the fire, according to a police report from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department. The woman reportedly intentionally lit the fire, according to police.
The woman was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for a 24-hour emergency detention.
No one was injured in the fire. The house had some smoke damage, but the fire had been contained to a closet area and burned several pieces of clothing, according to the Bristol Fire Department.
The sheriff’s department and the Indiana Department of Children’s Services are investigating.
