The Elkhart County Treasurer's Office will roll out a new feature on its website this weekend that will allow taxpayers to view and pay their bills online. Payments are due by May 10.
Taxpayers who register on the website can also sign up for email confirmations for transactions, availability of tax bills, reminders of due dates, notices of past due bills and notifications on failed transactions.
The website will accept credit cards and electronic checks. A 2.95 percent fee, or a minimum of $1, will be charged for each credit card transaction, and a 95-cent fee will be tacked on for each electronic check transaction.
The website will offer several payment options. Taxpayers can schedule a one-time payment or create a customized monthly payment plan. For this year, however, taxpayers will only be able to use the payment plan for the fall tax installment. Another option allows taxpayers to sign up to automatically pay all future property tax installments.
Through the county's website, taxpayers can also view previous payments. After 2012, the site will keep track of up to 18 months of payment history.
One-time payments can also be made without registering on the site, but the additional services, including email alerts, would not be available.
