GOSHEN — The cause of a fire that heavily damaged the pavilion at Rogers Park Wednesday night remains under investigation.

The Goshen Fire Department arrived at the park, 102 Chicago Ave., around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday to find the entire underside of the pavilion's roof on fire, said Assistant Fire Chief Jim Ramer. After the fire was under control, officials estimated the damage at $40,000.

A Goshen police officer driving along Pike Street saw the fire and summoned the fire department, Ramer said.

The fire department has not ruled the blaze arson, Ramer said, but it is interested in information anyone may have regarding how the fire started.

Rogers Park, developed in 1909, was the city's largest and most heavily used park for 50 years.
