GOSHEN — Firefighters from Concord, Harrison and Jefferson townships fought a fire at 60634 Missouri Ave.

The home, located on a small street near C.R. 45 and C.R. 17, may be a complete loss, said Commander David Miller of the Concord Township Fire Department.

The fire is still under investigation, Miller said.

Two cats and a dog died in the fire, which was called in at 11:43 a.m. A pet turtle survived the blaze. No one was home at the time of the fire, which started in the rear of the house, Miller said.

“The calmness (of the homeowners, Beth and Bob Krane) is probably because she (Beth) knows she has a place to go,” said Beth’s sister, Peg Kelly, who will host the Kranes and their three children until they can find a new home.

The Elkhart County Red Cross also is assisting the family. It has helped to replace clothing, food and other items, according to a news release.

Those who wish to help the family may contact the Elkhart County Chapter of the Red Cross at 293-6519.SA
