GOSHEN - A new PBS documentary will include scenes and voices of northern Indiana Amish.

Steve Nolt, professor of history at Goshen College, was part of the project as an academic advisor. The two-hour documentary is scheduled to air at 8 p.m. Feb. 28 on PBS stations. American Experience did the project and you can watch a 10-minute clip here. (Nolt can be seen and heard around the 8:30 mark.)

The clip focuses on the Nickel Mines tragedy in which a gunman killed Amish children in Pennsylvania and the film includes the first television interview with one of the parents, according to the filmmakers’ press release.

Mark Samels, executive producer of American Experience, said the film was the most difficult show he has ever made in 23 years because the subjects are against appearing on camera and attracting attention. But the show built trust to highlight voices of the Amish, he said.
