ELKHART - The final portion of Streetscape starts today.

The piecemeal overhaul of South Main Street enters its final phase, as the road shuts down from Division to Middlebury streets for work that is expected to last until Dec. 1.

The section from Marion to Division is expected to open again in another month.

Middlebury Street will be open to Tyler Street westbound traffic for most of the reconstruction, but will close at some point during the process for paving.

Traffic will be detoured to Prairie Street, Waterfall Drive and Franklin Street. Post office patrons can access the building from Main Street northbound to Tyler. Southbound traffic can access it from 3rd Street to Harrison to Tyler.

Tyler will temporarily be a two-way street from Harrison up to, but not including, Main Street. Traffic may enter Tyler from Main Street, but Tyler traffic will not be able to enter Main Street.

The work was originally slated for next summer, but was bumped up to this year to avoid another summer of Main Street construction.

* Goshen Avenue will be closed from today to Friday from East Jackson Boulevard to Middlebury Street.

* In Elkhart County, chipping and sealing work will occur on C.R. 34 between the Goshen city limits and C.R. 29.

Paving will be done on C.R. 11 between C.R. 22 and C.R. 26. The road will be closed to through traffic.
