The Goshen College fall mainstage "The Saint Plays" will compete Friday at the American College Theater Festival in Saginaw, Mich. Michelle Milne directed the production.
The entry is one of eight selected to compete at the festival. This is the first time Goshen College has entered an entire production.
"The Saint Plays" are six short plays written by Erik Ehn. Each play relates ordinary people to saints like Joan of Arc and John the Baptist.
One of the play's pieces was written in memory of Deanne Binde, a Goshen College student who died last spring. The piece is about St. Rose of Viterbo whose feast is celebrated the same day as Binde's birthday. The piece includes stories and quotes from Binde's life.
Milne also directed the previous fall mainstage where Binde held the lead role.
"I find it deeply meaningful that a play honoring the spirit of Deanne continues to live on in this way, and I am so happy that the students have an opportunity to share their work with a larger, regional audience," Milne said in a press release.
