GOSHEN — Everett Thomas retained his seat in Goshen’s District 5 by a count of 1,045 to 848 over Brett Weddell.

Thomas, the incumbent Democrat, and Weddell, the Republican challenger, both ran a positive campaign, with Weddell distancing himself from negative advertising in the city-wide races.

This was the first run for office for Weddell, a local optometrist.

Thomas started on the council in 1991 and was council president from 2003 through 2007 when Democrats held a majority.
